SKILLS FOR CIRCUS WORKSHOPS

Our circus skills workshops offer a wide variety of skills for participants to have a go at. Skill options are offered suitable for children and adults and for the event where the workshop will be run. Some of the skills offered are limited by available tutors, space or other factors.

JUGGLING

Juggling skills are one of the most popular skills in all workshops. Properly called 'toss juggling' these skills use equipment which is thrown and caught. Juggling is where more objects  are used than the number of hands doing the throwing and catching.

Juggling can be performed solo or with a partner

PLATE SPINNING

Plate spinning is popular with all age groups. It is achievable in a relatively short time but also multiple optional tricks can be learnt.

It can be performed solo, in pairs or as part of a group making one of the most versatile interactive skills available

DIABOLO

Diabolo is popular with all age groups. It is like a giant yo-yo which is spun using two handsticks joined by a string

It's basic operation is achievable for older children and adults in a relatively short time. Extensive range of trick options to learn.

FLOWER or DEVIL STICKS

Flower sticks and Devil sticks are long sticks (with flower sticks having rubber tassles on each end to slow the spin down) that are manipulated using two rubber covered handsticks

Its basic operation is quite difficult but there are numerous other throwing and catching tricks which are achievable in quite a short time.

POI SPINNING

Poi spinning is popular many age groups. It involves spinning a sock or string weighted at one end with ball around your body

It is achievable in a relatively short time but also multiple optional tricks can be learnt.

STILT WALKING

Stilt walking is popular with all age groups. It is achievable in a by KS3 children and adult participants in longer workshops

Stilt walking for most workshops is performed with hold on stilts - either wooden 'peg' stilts or plastic 'bucket' stilts

It is performed solo although younger participants will require one to one help

Unicycling is popular with most age groups. It is generally not achievable in short workshops due to its difficulity. However great fun can be had trying!

PEDAL RACERS

BALANCING

Balancing is popular with all age groups. It is achievable in a relatively short time depending on the equipment used.

Balancing skills are skills using various pieces of equipment and balancing them on participants hands, feet or chins

Equipment (prop) used is often peacock feather but other popular props are spinning plates, juggling clubs and devil sticks
